HAVE FAITH IN GOD: THERE’S THE FAMINE OF THE HEARING OF THE WORD!
“Behold, the days come, saith the Lord God, that I WILL SEND A FAMINE IN THE LAND, not a FAMINE of BREAD, nor a THIRST for WATER, BUT OF HEARING THE WORDS OF THE LORD . . .” Amos 8:11-13.
It is a great time to HAVE FAITH IN GOD and give your EARS to the HEARING of the SAYINGS of God, before the FAMINE OF THE HEARING OF THE WORD takes hold of you, as it is so obvious in many places today.
“. . . 22 So Jesus answered and said to them, “HAVE FAITH IN GOD” Mark 11:12-14, 20-24.
It is time to INCLINE your EARS to GOD’S WORD by HEARING and giving attendance to God’s SAYINGS, in order to be ABOVE ONLY, in the midst of challenging times. For FAITH comes by the HEARING of the WORD.
“So then FAITH COMES BY HEARING, and HEARING BY THE WORD of God” Romans 10:17.
“My son, ATTEND to my WORDS; INCLINE THINE EAR UNTO MY SAYINGS. 21 Let them not DEPART from thine EYES; keep them in the midst of thine HEART. 22 For they are LIFE unto those that find them, and HEALTH to all their flesh. 23 Keep thy HEART with all DILIGENCE; for out of it are the ISSUES OF LIFE” Proverbs 4:20-23.
There are many VOICES in the air 24/7, and whom and what you LISTEN to will shape your life, every now and then. One is either HEARING the sayings of the WORD of God to be APPROVED or may be hearing sayings that are posed for self- APPLAUSE and HYPE by SOCIAL MEDIA and other MULTIMEDIA platforms; or by the tradition and rudiments of the world; or by satanic and cohort sayings; or by self make-believe or being made to believe; or by the circumstances of the environment and such like.
It is time not to feed on rubbish or from the waste bin garbage simply because you want to feed. Wake up and locate a place for the HEARING OF THE WORD OF GOD, not SENTIMENTS and PREJUDICE that appeal to your emotions and circumstances. God’s INTENT is to GIVE you SHEPHERDS that will FEED you with KNOWLEDGE and UNDERSTANDING that you might grow up in GRACE and be established in the FAITH. (Jeremiah 3:15; Proverbs 4:7). And it is your responsibility and accountability to locate one today and begin to hear aright the SAYINGS of God in Christ Jesus’ stead. Amen.
There is a genuine reality today of falsehoods, adulteration, perversion and dilution of the authentic and authoritative WORD of God by deluded preachers and others in manifold manifestations in the name of Church or Ministry (Galatians 1:6-9; Philippians 1:15-18) It is not surprising because the Scriptures knew before now of the upcoming FAMINE of the HEARING of The WORD of God.
A lack of the genuine HEARING of the WORD means a lack of FAITH. Faith is the transaction tender between Man and God, which when lacking, or adulterated or fake or diluted, one cannot trade in the Kingdom or Heavenly Business with God. Do you know the effect and consequences of that? It is therefore imperative that you wake up from your lazy attitude and begin to examine what you are HEARING today, before – The FAMINE of the HEARING of the WORD kicks into your being and overwhelms you in life and godly living.
For NO HEARING of the WORD means NO FAITH, and that means NO TRANSACTION in heaven for your earthly affairs under God. Heaven does not accept fake or adulterated or perverted or counterfeited or polluted and such like tender for transactions outside FAITH, which is derived and built up from the HEARING of THE WORD of God.
Therefore, do yourself a favour and examine what you are hearing and feeding your being if it is God’s WORD, or any of these: Man-made beliefs, traditional dogmas, denominational creeds and byelaws, cultural sayings of the old fables, the rudiments of this world, philosophy of men, prejudice and sentimental appeals, and such like.
THE ONLY ANTIDOTE TO THE FAMINE OF THE WORD, IS THE HEARING OF THE WORD.
I pray you don’t run to and fro when it’s too late to look for the WORD. Do yourself a favour today,, before FAMINE kicks in and make-believe takes over.
SCRIPTURAL THOUGHTS WORTH PONDERING IN CONTEXT:
“So then FAITH cometh BY HEARING, AND HEARING by THE WORD of God” Romans 10:17.
“Behold, the days come, saith the Lord God, that I WILL SEND A FAMINE IN THE LAND, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, BUT OF HEARING THE WORDS OF THE LORD: 12 and they shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east, they shall run to and fro to seek the word of the Lord, and shall not find it. 13 In that day shall the fair virgins and young men faint for thirst” Amos 8:11-13.
“But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy MOUTH, and in thy HEART: that is, the WORD OF FAITH, which we preach; 9 that if thou shalt CONFESS with thy MOUTH the Lord Jesus, and shalt BELIEVE in THINE HEART that God hath RAISED him from the dead, thou shalt be SAVED. 10 For with the HEART man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation” Romans 10:8-10.
“And I will give you PASTORS according to mine heart, which shall FEED you with KNOWLEDGE and UNDERSTANDING” Jeremiah 3:15.
“But GROW in GRACE, and in the KNOWLEDGE of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen” 2 Peter 3:18.
“WISDOM is the PRINCIPAL thing; therefore get WISDOM: and with all thy getting get UNDERSTANDING” Proverbs 4:7.
“I MARVEL that ye are so soon REMOVED from him that CALLED you into the grace of Christ unto ANOTHER gospel: 7 which is NOT ANOTHER; but there be SOME that TROUBLE you, and would PERVERT the gospel of Christ. 8 But though WE, or an ANGEL from heaven, PREACH any other gospel unto you than that which we have PREACHED unto you, let him be ACCURSED. 9 As we said before, so say I now again, If any man PREACH any other gospel unto you than that ye have RECEIVED, let him be ACCURSED” Galatians 1:6-9.
“Some indeed PREACH Christ even of ENVY and STRIFE; and some also of GOOD WILL: 16 the one PREACH Christ of CONTENTION, NOT SINCERELY, supposing to add affliction to my bonds: 17 but the other of LOVE, knowing that I am set for the defence of the gospel. 18 What then? notwithstanding, every way, whether in PRETENCE, or in TRUTH, Christ is PREACHED; and I therein do rejoice, yea, and will rejoice” Philippians 1:15-18.
SUMMARY:
Core Theme: The Urgency of Hearing God’s Word in a Season of Spiritual Famine
The entire exhortation centres on one principle: faith comes only by hearing the Word of God. In a time marked by competing voices, doctrinal corruption, and spiritual apathy, the writer calls believers to guard their ears, reject diluted substitutes, and return to authentic Scripture as the only basis for faith and life.
- Prophetic Warning: A Famine of Hearing the Word
The message opens and closes with Amos 8:11-13 — God declaring a famine “not of bread nor thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the Lord”. This is framed as a present reality: falsehoods, adulteration, perversion, and dilution of Scripture by “deluded preachers” under the banner of church/ministry. Galatians 1:6-9; Philippians 1:15-18 are cited to show that perverting the gospel and preaching from envy/strife are not new.
- Theological Foundation: Faith = Hearing = Transaction with God
Definition of faith: “Faith is the transaction tender between man and God.” It is the only currency heaven accepts for earthly affairs.
Source of faith: Romans 10:17 — “faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” No hearing of the Word = no faith = no transaction in heaven for your life.
Command of Christ: Mark 11:22 — “Have faith in God.” Faith is not optional; it is a mandate.
- Practical Instruction: Guard What You Hear
Because “there are many voices in the air 24/7,” the believer must examine what they feed their spirit. The message lists counterfeit sources to reject:
- Man-made beliefs
- Traditional dogmas and denominational creeds/byelaws
- Cultural fables and old sayings
- Rudiments of this world + philosophy of men
- Prejudice and sentimental appeals
- Social media hype, self make-believe, circumstances, satanic/cohort sayings
Proverbs 4:20-23 is used as the corrective: “Attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings… Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.”
- God’s Intent: Shepherds Who Feed with Knowledge
Jeremiah 3:15; Proverbs 4:7 establish God’s intent to give “shepherds according to mine heart” who feed with knowledge and understanding so believers grow in grace and are established in faith. This creates responsibility: locate such shepherds/places now and “hear aright the sayings of God in Christ Jesus’ stead.”
- Consequences of Neglect
Personal: Lazy attitude leads to being overwhelmed by famine; “run to and fro” seeking the Word but not finding it, per Amos 8:12.
Spiritual: Fake, adulterated, perverted, counterfeited, or polluted “tender” cannot trade in the kingdom. Only faith built from the Word is accepted in heaven.
Doctrinal: Lack of genuine hearing produces lack of faith, which removes the believer from effective kingdom living.
- Call to Action & Antidote
The only antidote to the famine of the Word is the hearing of the Word.
Therefore:
- Wake up now, before it’s too late.
- Do yourself a favour today: examine what you hear.
- Incline your ears to God’s Word to be “above only” Deuteronomy 28:13 even in challenging times.
- Grow in grace and knowledge 2 Peter 3:18. Get wisdom and understanding Proverbs 4:7.
- Confess and believe the Word of faith in your mouth and heart Romans 10:8-10.
Scriptural Anchors Used Throughout

- Jeremiah 3:15: Shepherds that feed with knowledge
- Galatians 1:6-9: No other gospel; accursed if perverted
