What drives your interest in leadership, and how would you describe your approach?

March 25, 2026 By Pastor Chukie Leave a Comment

What drives your interest in leadership, and how would you describe your approach: do you prioritize serving your team (servant leadership) or exercising formal authority (directive leadership)?

“When the RIGHTEOUS are in AUTHORITY, the PEOPLE REJOICE: But when the WICKED BEARETH RULE, the PEOPLE MOURN” Proverbs 29:2.

Today in our world, you don’t have to look far off to see leadership of all sorts and the effects of their leadership on their people and country. And worst is seeing some places where there’s prevalence of looting, stealing, embezzlement, corruption, inhumane behaviour and wickedness across the boards in lordship leadership. And sometimes you will be thinking of bigger places of leadership as more of menace, but there’s the need to see the breeding and brewing places of some lordship leadership are made, when you look more closely; closely I mean, when you see all sorts of leadership and the perils created by even the small leadership levels as found in local leadership levels down the communities, and such like.

“. . . 25 But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Ye know that the PRINCES [LEADERSHIP] of the Gentiles EXERCISE DOMINION over them, and they that are GREAT EXERCISE AUTHORITY upon them. 26 But it shall not be so among you: but whosoever will be great among you, let him be your MINISTER; 27 and whosoever will be CHIEF [[LEADER] among you, let him be your SERVANT: 28 even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many” Matthew 20:20-28 [Mark 10:35-45].

The scripture is very clear that godly leadership brings about good governance through Servanthood. And such leadership leads by a heartfelt LOVE of their people and country without sentiments, prejudice and dissimulation. And when such characteristics are not found and obtained, such leadership is not a godly leadership irrespective of the person’s religious status, so acclaimed or supported or made to be, or looked like for self-applause.

“For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by LOVE SERVE ONE ANOTHER. 14 For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt LOVE thy neighbour as thyself. [15] But if ye BITE and DEVOUR one another, take heed that ye be not consumed one of another” Galatians 5:13-15.

Anyone without a godly concept to lead is fit for lordship leadership. And almost all in such positions are there to oppress, bully, and loot the people’s and country’s assets and common wealth. They think bullying others is strength. But God has a date with such wicked and evil leaders hiding behind a cloak of leadership.

“Though HAND JOIN IN HAND, THE WICKED SHALL NOT BE UNPUNISHED: But the seed of the righteous shall be delivered . . . 31 Behold, the righteous shall be recompensed in the earth: Much more THE WICKED and the sinner” Proverbs 11:21, 31.

“Though A SINNER DO EVIL AN HUNDRED TIMES, and HIS DAYS BE PROLONGED, yet surely I know that it shall be well with them that fear God, which fear before him: 13 BUT IT SHALL NOT BE WELL WITH THE WICKED, NEITHER SHALL HE PROLONG HIS DAYS, which are as a shadow; because he feareth not before God” Ecclesiastes 8:12-13.

And God is determined, no matter how long evil and wicked leaders in leadership stays without a servant heart leadership, that He won’t allow the rod and opportunity of the wicked to rest upon the lot of the righteous, so that the righteous won’t learn of their way to suffer along.

“For the ROD OF THE WICKED shall not rest upon THE LOT OF THE RIGHTEOUS; Lest the righteous put forth their hands unto iniquity” Psalms 125:3.

The Believer in Christ must be resolved to know that in serving in any points in leadership of the public environment: be it in Government [Governance], Industry, education, Church, Health and such like, a Servanthood spirit is a prerequisites to God’s approval instead of men approval [applause] as Joseph, Daniel and other biblical leadership leaders that earned God approvals]. The scripture indicates that after you’ve done what you are privileged and permitted to do in Servanthood leadership, you should consider yourself unworthy. What a charge to make any godly leadership aspirants to know it’s all about God for the good of us and the country and not for self-centered and self-gratification.

“So likewise ye, when ye shall have done all those things which are commanded you, say, We are UNPROFITABLE SERVANTS: we have done that which was our duty to do” Luke 17:10.

So, I ask you again, have you been in leadership? Are you currently in leadership? Are you intending in going to leadership? What are your yardstick? Do you know that God search the reins, thoughts and intents of the hearts in whichever spectrum you may qualify yourself. One thing is sure and certain is this- that God knows if you are set to be in leadership as to serve, otherwise servanthood leadership, or you are there or being there or hoping to step in to be of the lordship leadership.

“I the LORD SEARCH THE HEART, I try the REINS, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings” Jeremiah 17:10.

“And I will kill her children with death; and all the churches shall know that I am he which SEARCHETH the REINS and HEARTS: and I will give unto every one of you according to your works” Revelation 2:23.

“And he that SEARCHETH THE HEARTS knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God” Romans 8:27.

I do pray that your if you are intending to get into leadership, especially in the public sectors, ensure you have a good and godly personal aspirations before going into leadership. And there’s the need to know that the part way of godly living is of a Servanthood Leadership and any form otherwise, it’s of Lordship Leadership.

SELAH – PAUSE AND THINK!

SCRIPTURAL THOUGHTS WORTH PONDERING IN CONTEXT:

“When the RIGHTEOUS are in AUTHORITY, the PEOPLE REJOICE: But when the WICKED BEARETH RULE, the PEOPLE MOURN” Proverbs 29:2.

“So likewise ye, when ye shall have done all those things which are commanded you, say, We are UNPROFITABLE SERVANTS: we have done that which was our duty to do” Luke 17:10.

“For the ROD OF THE WICKED shall not rest upon THE LOT OF THE RIGHTEOUS; Lest the righteous put forth their hands unto iniquity” Psalms 125:3.

“And James and John, the sons of Zebedee, come unto him, saying, Master, we would that thou shouldest do for us whatsoever we shall desire. 36 And he said unto them, What would ye that I should do for you? 37 They said unto him, Grant unto us that we may sit, one on thy right hand, and the other on thy left hand, in thy glory. 38 But Jesus said unto them, Ye know not what ye ask: can ye drink of the cup that I drink of? and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with? 39 And they said unto him, We can. And Jesus said unto them, Ye shall indeed drink of the cup that I drink of; and with the baptism that I am baptized withal shall ye be baptized: 40 but to sit on my right hand and on my left hand is not mine to give; but it shall be given to them for whom it is prepared. 41 And when the ten heard it, they began to be much displeased with James and John. 42 But Jesus called them to him, and saith unto them, Ye know that they which are accounted to rule over the Gentiles exercise lordship over them; and their great ones exercise authority upon them. 43 But so shall it not be among you: but whosoever will be great among you, shall be your minister: 44 and whosoever of you will be the CHIEFEST, shall be SERVANT of all. 45 For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many” Mark 10:35-45.
