THE EFFECTIVE FAITH THAT WORKS: IT’S THE FAITH THAT SUBSTANTIATES IN HOPE!
“Now FAITH is the SUBSTANCE of things HOPED for, the evidence of things not seen” Hebrews 11:1.
The FAITH that works and that’s EFFECTUAL – EFFECTIVE and EFFICIENT – is the FAITH that SUBSTANTIATES in HOPE. Hence COMMUNICATE your FAITH in HOPE.
And by the PATIENCE of HOPE, you can keep FAITH thriving in the midst of all odds, as you LABOUR in LOVE to SERVE in GRACE.
SCRIPTURAL THOUGHTS WORTH PONDERING IN CONTEXT:
“Therefore being JUSTIFIED BY FAITH, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: 2 by whom also we have ACCESS BY FAITH into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God . . . 5 and HOPE maketh not ASHAMED; because the LOVE of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us” Romans 5:1-5.
“I thank my God, making mention of thee always in my prayers, 5 hearing of thy LOVE and FAITH, which thou hast toward the Lord Jesus, and toward all saints; 6 that the COMMUNICATION of thy FAITH may become EFFECTUAL by the acknowledging of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus” Philemon 4-6.
“We give thanks to God always for you all, making mention of you in our prayers; 3 remembering without ceasing your WORK OF FAITH, AND LABOUR OF LOVE, AND PATIENCE OF HOPE in our Lord Jesus Christ, in the sight of God and our Father; 4 knowing, brethren beloved, your election of God. 5 FOR OUR GOSPEL CAME NOT UNTO YOU IN WORD ONLY, BUT ALSO IN POWER, AND IN THE HOLY GHOST, AND IN MUCH ASSURANCE; as ye know what manner of men we were among you for your sake” 1 Thessalonians 1:2-5.
“Therefore it is of FAITH, that it might be by grace; to the end the promise might be sure to all the seed; not to that only which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham; who is the father of us all, 17 (as it is written, I have made thee a father of many nations,) before him whom he believed, even God, who quickeneth the dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they were. 18. WHO AGAINST HOPE BELIEVED IN HOPE, THAT HE MIGHT BECOME THE FATHER OF MANY NATIONS; according to that which was spoken, So shall thy seed be. 19 AND BEING NOT WEAK IN FAITH, he considered not his own body now dead, when he was about an hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sara’s womb: 20 he staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was STRONG IN FAITH, giving glory to God; 21 and being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform . . .” Romans 4:16-25.
SUMMARY:
The message emphasises the importance of effective faith that works, which is substantiated in hope. According to Hebrews 11:1, “Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” The faith that is effective and efficient is the one that is rooted in hope and demonstrated through love and action.
Key points:
- Faith is not just a feeling, but a substance that gives reality to our hopes (Hebrews 11:1).
- Effective faith is communicated through our words and actions and is fueled by hope and love (Philemon 4-6).
- Patience in hope enables us to keep faith thriving despite challenges and odds (Romans 5:1-5).
- Abraham’s example shows us that faith against hope, believing in hope, and being strong in faith leads to powerful outcomes (Romans 4:16-25).
- Our faith should be evident in our work, labour of love, and patience of hope (1 Thessalonians 1:2-5).
The message encourages believers to:
- Communicate their faith in hope
- Labour in love to serve in grace
- Keep faith thriving through patience in hope
- Trust in God’s promises and be strong in faith
The ultimate goal is to have an effective faith that works, demonstrating the reality of our hope in Christ Jesus
