{"id":1346,"date":"2011-07-30T20:11:30","date_gmt":"2011-07-30T20:11:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/42ndgenerationfoundation.com\/achieversfaithdigest\/?p=1346"},"modified":"2017-06-28T18:24:44","modified_gmt":"2017-06-28T17:24:44","slug":"leadership-servanthood-not-lordship","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.42ndgenerationfoundation.com\/achieversfaithdigest\/leadership-servanthood-not-lordship\/","title":{"rendered":"Leadership Is Sacrifice &#038; Service"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify; padding-left: 30px;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/42ndgenerationfoundation.com\/achieversfaithdigest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/The-Rod.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-319 alignleft\" title=\"The Rod\" src=\"http:\/\/42ndgenerationfoundation.com\/achieversfaithdigest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/The-Rod-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"182\" height=\"182\" \/><\/a><span style=\"color: #808000;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #008080;\">1 Peter 5:1-4<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #008080;\"> <em>&#8220;<sup id=\"en-NKJV-30463\">1<\/sup> The elders who are among you I exhort, I who am a fellow elder and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that will be revealed:<strong> <sup id=\"en-NKJV-30464\">2<\/sup> Shepherd the flock of God which is among you, serving as overseers, not by compulsion but willingly, not for dishonest gain but eagerly; <sup id=\"en-NKJV-30465\">3<\/sup> nor as being lords over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock; <sup id=\"en-NKJV-30466\">4<\/sup> and when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that does not fade away&#8221;.<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #008080;\"><strong>Matthew 20:20-28<\/strong> <em>&#8220;Then the mother of Zebedee\u2019s sons came to Him with her sons, kneeling down and asking something from Him. <sup id=\"en-NKJV-23810\">21<\/sup> And He said to her, \u201cWhat do you wish?\u201d<\/em><em> She said to Him, \u201cGrant that these two sons of mine may sit, one on Your right hand and the other on the left, in Your kingdom.\u201d <sup id=\"en-NKJV-23811\">22<\/sup> But Jesus answered and said, \u201cYou do not know what you ask. Are you able to drink the cup that I am about to drink, and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with?\u201dThey said to Him, \u201cWe are able.\u201d <sup id=\"en-NKJV-23812\">23<\/sup> So He said to them, \u201cYou will indeed drink My cup, and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with; but to sit on My right hand and on My left is not Mine to give, but it is for those for whom it is prepared by My Father.\u201d <sup id=\"en-NKJV-23813\">24<\/sup> And when the ten heard it, they were greatly displeased with the two brothers. <strong><sup id=\"en-NKJV-23814\">25<\/sup> But Jesus called them to Himself and said, \u201cYou know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and those who are great exercise authority over them. <sup id=\"en-NKJV-23815\">26<\/sup> Yet it shall not be so among you; but whoever desires to become great among you, let him be your servant. <sup id=\"en-NKJV-23816\">27<\/sup> And whoever desires to be first among you, let him be your slave\u2014 <sup id=\"en-NKJV-23817\">28<\/sup> just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many\u201d.<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008080;\">The call to leadership in the Faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, is a call to servanthood (sacrifice, service and stewardship ministry) and not to a Lordship ministry as detailed in the above named Scriptures. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008080;\"><strong>Some key guideline to true and effective leadership are thus:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify; list-style-type: square;\">\n<li><span style=\"color: #008080;\">Be a leader not\u00a0 a boss<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #008080;\">Lead by example<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #008080;\">Have an attitude of a servant<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #008080;\">Leadership is a function of humility<strong> &#8211; Philippians 2:6-8; John 13:4-11<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #008080;\">Leadership must have a focus goal (know where you are going and where you are coming from). Leadership means remaining focus irrespective of the challenges.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #008080;\">Leadership must be done and approach with a perfect heart <strong>&#8211; 2 Chronicle 25:2; Jeremiah 17:9-10.<\/strong> Leadership action depends on the motive and\u00a0 God rewards motive not only just the action. Leadership is likened to\u00a0 a salt as in <strong>&#8211; Matthew 5:13.<\/strong> Salt is what is inside it.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #008080;\">Leadership is not glamour but a warfare. To be engaged on our fight of FAITH with satan and cohorts for human freedom &amp; liberty in REDEMPTION.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #008080;\">Leadership is not cheap. Every pain adds to your experience. And every experience leads to your promotion. As a leader you will step on peoples toes or feet, you will be insulted and be misunderstood, but don&#8217;t misunderstand yourself when you are being misunderstood.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #008080;\">As a leader, watch your utterances, especially about death or dying &#8211; <strong>Numbers 11:11-15; 1 Kings 19:1-5.<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #008080;\"><strong>Matthew 17:1-3<\/strong> &#8211; Honour of God in the mount of transfiguration. As a leader, your service and motive will determine your honour &amp; presentation. Your account of services in the kingdom of God is your reward.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008080;\"><strong>Examples of Integrity In Leadership:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008080;\"><strong>a. Samuel the Leader:<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #008080;\"><strong>1 Samuel 12:1-5 <\/strong><em>&#8220;<sup id=\"en-NKJV-7462\">1<\/sup> Now Samuel said to all Israel: \u201cIndeed I have heeded your voice in all that you said to me, and have made a king over you. <sup id=\"en-NKJV-7463\">2<\/sup> And now here is the king, walking before you; and I am old and grayheaded, and look, my sons are with you. I have walked before you from my childhood to this day. <sup id=\"en-NKJV-7464\">3<\/sup> <strong>Here I am. Witness against me before the LORD and before His anointed: Whose ox have I taken, or whose donkey have I taken, or whom have I cheated? Whom have I oppressed, or from whose hand have I received any bribe with which to blind my eyes? I will restore it to you.<\/strong>\u201d<\/em><em><sup id=\"en-NKJV-7465\">4<\/sup> And they said, \u201cYou have not cheated us or oppressed us, nor have you taken anything from any man\u2019s hand.\u201d <\/em><em><sup id=\"en-NKJV-7466\">5<\/sup> Then he said to them, \u201cThe LORD is witness against you, and His anointed is witness this day, that you have not found anything in my hand.\u201d <\/em><em>And they answered, \u201cHe is witness\u201d.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008080;\"><strong>b. Barnabas the Leader: <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #008080;\"><strong>Acts 1:21-26<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #008080;\"><strong>Acts 4:36-37<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #008080;\"><strong>Acts 9:26-28<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #008080;\"><strong>Acts 12: 25<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #008080;\"><strong>Acts 15:36-39<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #008080;\"><strong>2 Timothy 4:11<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008080;\"><strong>Finally, Here are the t<\/strong><strong>hree tempters or enemies you need\u00a0to Watch in course of\u00a0Leadership:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: disc;\">\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008080;\"><strong>Money (Finance):<\/strong> Money may be good, don&#8217;t love it, it does have wings and may disappear\u00a0 &#8211;\u00a0 <strong>Proverbs 23:5; 1 Timothy 6:10. <\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008080;\"><strong>Immorality (Sex):<\/strong> Avoid it else it will go far towards you. It kills the anoint and the anointed. Keep far away from you for your own good. Get married if so pressured <strong>&#8211; 1 Corinthians 7:1-7; 1 Corinthians 6:19-20; 3:16-17; 2 Corinthians 6:14-18.<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008080;\"><strong>Pride (Boasting):<\/strong> Deal with it early if you must stay top and maintain pace or position.
